High water level impedes the operation of Thermal Power Plant „Morava“

Abundant rainfall in recent days have caused an increase in the water level of the River Velika Morava in Svilajnac. In some places south, the water level is above the regular flood defense. Hydrological conditions are reflected in the operation of the Thermal Power Plant "Morava". From April 17th, when the level of the River Velika Morava at the water intake was 100 inches, to April 22nd, the level had risen to 530 inches.

The high water level makes the work of the pumping station and the cooling pumps difficult. The river is muddy, swollen and carries a large amount of trash, logs, trees, plastic bottles. Grids located at the suction pipeline of pumps quickly accumulate various wastes so we are forced to clean them more often. The pontoon bridge that prevented the waste to reach the grids was off thus creating more problems, says the director of the TPP "Morava" Marija Stevanovic.

Pipe that sends the return cooling water to the Morava was also covered. We expect new precipitation in the next few days and further water level increase of the largest Serbian river. Employees in TPP „Morava“ make efforts to stabilize the situation and provide stable operation of pumping station in such extraordinary conditions.
