In the energy field closest to the European Standards

Society of Thermal Engineers of Serbia organized 6th International Conference "Power Plants 2014" which started yesterday in Zlatibor. This year about 100 research papers will be presented in this traditional professional scientific meeting, held every other year, including nine papers signed by experts from TENT Obrenovac. During the three days of the conference, to October 31, through several sessions lectures and presentations devoted to the problems of labor exploitation of hydro, thermal and wind power plants, the environmental aspect of their work, renewable energy, market liberalization and security of energy supply as well as the problems of extending operating life of the plant will be organized.

Professor Miloš Banjac, Assisstant Minister of Mining and Energy, opened the international conference „Power Plants 2014“, welcoming guests from 11 European countries and a number of local experts from the scientific and educational institutions and industry, he informed all participants that after two rounds of consultations with representatives of the Energy Community development of the new Energy Law was completed, and expressed hope that he would be fully in line with the third package of directives in the field of energy.

Simon Uzunov, representative of the Energy Community of South East Europe, also addressed the participants of this international expert meeting reminding once again that the mission of the Energy Community is to assist in the expansion of the energy markets, maintaining the stability and greater security of supply of electricity, renewable sources of affirmation and those projects in which we can recognize their regional importance, not only in the national framework and the implementation of the norms of European legislation in which national courts should have greater participation.

Talking about energy markets, prices and security of supply Ljubo Maćić, president of the Council of the Energy Agency of the Republic of Serbia, stressed out that the European goal is creating a single energy market, which is much more interesting for strengthening of competition compared to individual national markets.

There is technical, economical and legal potential in Serbia at this mooment so that we can make new thermal energy capacities,  the only thing we should do is to make such a decision and to abide by it, said Professor Aca Marković, resident of the Supervisory Board of PE EPS, pointing out the most realistick implementation of two projects at this moment: construction of new unit in kostolac, output of  350MW and RHPP Bistrica, for which there are models for funding which can be implemented very quickly with the knowledge we have.

Taking participation in the introductory part of the conference, Milan Petković, Deputy Director of CE TENT, reminded that in the past ten years CE TENT has paid great attention to renovation of its facilities in order to increase their reliability and efficiency, confirmed by their output increase of about 150 MW more than initially designed as well as harmonization with environmental standards established by the EU.

We enterd 2014 with repair of all damages on the facilities caused by the floods in May, particularly damages repair at TENT A, quickly reconnecting the units to the grid, repair of industrial track, switchgear and control system in the TEK in Veliki Crljeni, which was most damaged in the floods. Despite the difficult situation TENT B operated with a single unit without interruption, supplying the coal from landfills with diggers, because it was not possible to transport the coal. TEM also worked all the time although Svilajnac was flooded, and the Morava threatened to jeopardize our plant in this branch. This year we have started the implementation of strategic projects, revitalization of unit A-3 and major overhaul of unit A-1, which were planned to work, but from the well-known reasons had to be postponed for about a month, said Milan Petković and added that after the overhaul, unit TENT A-1 was connected to the grid on October 22, 2014, one day ahead of schedule, while the works on TENT A-3 are running as planned, but will enter an unpredictable winter.

New activities are being done on the almost all parts of the unit A3; entirely new turbine is being installed, generator corset is being changed, and there are activities done in the field of environmental protection and harmonization with EU standards providing dust emission below 50 mg/Nm3 with reconstruction of ESP and NOx emission below 200 mg/Nm3 with reconstruction of boiler firing, said Milan Petković. He added that he expected completion of the contract and the final selection of contractor for the planned reconstruction of electrostatic precipitators in TEM-in in 2015 this year and pointed out that TENT has two more projects in the field of environmental protection, which is the construction of wastewater treatment plant at TENT A and TENT B and their implementation will take longer and will be supported by the European Delegation in Belgrade.

At the end of the introductory part, the Director of HPP "Đerdap" Ljubiša Jokic received recognition in the form of replicas "Votive carts", exhibits from Lepenski Vir, which the Society of Thermal Engineers of Serbia awarded on the 50th anniversary of the start of work on the construction of this power plant on the Danube.

Sponsors of the International Conference "Power Plants 2014" are the Ministry of Mines and Energy, the Ministry of Education, Science and Technological Development, Ministry of Agriculture and Environment of the Republic of Serbia, as well as Public Enterprise "Electric Power Industry of Serbia".
