Stable and reliable unit operation in Morava Power Plants

The unit of Thermal power plant „Morava" operates stably and reliably in compliance with the requirements of EPS Dispatch Service, and the situation at the dump site is satisfactory for now, says Director Dragan Nešić

Production in Thermal power plant „Morava" in Svilajnac is quite satisfactory, and the operation of its only unit is stable and reliable. The smallest production unit at CE TENT as well as the entire power system of Serbia went through an extremely difficult period caused by bad weather conditions, low temperatures and heavy snowfall. However, it didn't significantly affect the operation of EPS's „gold reserves".

- The plant operated very well during the freezing days because the necessary preparations were well done. During the major overhaul the attention was paid to those elements that might cause problems in the production process itself, said Dragan Nešić, Director of TEM adding that:

- There are currently 148.000 tons of coal of different quality (stone, brown and lignite) at the dump site. Although there hasn't been any influx from the mines for some time, the supplies are quite good, so that the needs of production are covered by the reserves from the dump site. In the future, as early as March, we should begin receiving new deliveries, primarily from MB „Kolubara". We receive smaller amounts (from 400 to 800 tons)from underground mines occasionally which is in these circumstances appropriate for „Morava". We take off 3.200-3.300 tons of coal per day (depending on quality).

According to our source, the Velika Morava River doesn't jeopardize the operation of the plant, regardless of winter conditions and low water temperature.

- As the river is quite stable – virtually no ice, the flow is satisfactory, and we have the required level of water for cooling of the plant.

There is a regular mode of operation on de-ashing system, ash and slag transport and disposal system.

- Operation of Thermal power plant „Morava" is stable and reliable, in compliance with the requirements of dispatchers for the production of EPS, which dictate the maximum power we can achieve. We expect that by the end of February we will be close to meet the monthly production plan (62. 000 megawatt-hours).

Based on current results, extended major overhaul (120 days) begins to produce results, and investment of RSD 421 million (funds of EPS and TENT) is gradually returning.

- Due to problems with dynamic state of the turbine the overhaul has been extended. Replaced part of the boiler furnace is fully operational. We have been in the EPS system for almost month and a half and for now we are satisfied with the operation of the unit after the overhaul, however, we expect more activities of primary and auxiliary equipment in the future. There is still time to consider all the benefits we got in the past overhaul season, although some of them (such as reduction of heat loss, better sealing and insulation of the boiler)are more than obvious, concluded the Director of TPP „Morava".
