After 120 overhaul days, TPP „Morava“ is back on the grid of Electric Power Industry of Serbia (EPS)

This plant has been put again into operation on the night of January 13. Turbine rotor overhaul and the reconstruction and replacement of boiler burner were main works that have been completed.

The 100 MW thermal power plant "Morava" in Svilajnac is back in the system of "Electric Power Industry of Serbia" after 120 days of overhaul. As Mr. Dragan Nešić, Director of TPP "Morava" said on that occasion, this plant was put into operation on the night of January 13 and it will enhance the contribution of thermal power plants to the overall electricity production in Serbia, when the production of hydro-power plants is on the minimum because of the low water level, and the heating season is running "full steam ahead". Overhaul works were delayed due to the necessity to send the turbine rotor, one of the most important parts, to Alstom factory in Poland, to the country where the equipment was first bought in 1969. This was the first time in last 42 years of work that a part of the equipment had to be sent out of our country for repairs.

- Besides the rotor overhaul, the second significant job was the reconstruction and replacement of the boiler burner, but works were carried out also on the other parts – said Mr. Nešić. Overhaul cost was 421 million Dinars and the funds were provided by EPS, that is, TPP "Nikola Tesla". When it comes to boiler repairs, this was the first stage. In the major overhaul planned for 2013, the new boiler shall be installed and the electrostatic precipitator modernized. Some of the important works will be also performed on the electrical part of the plant and generator. The money for realization of these works that will last about six months shall be provided by EPS funds and in part by EU.

As for the continuation of the production, it is important to stress out that 180.000t of coal is stored at the power plant depot and after the reconstruction and deepening of the bed of river Velika Morava near the bridge to Markovac, the power plant no longer has problems with cooling of turbines since it does no longer depend on the water level. TPP "Morava", with capacity of 125 MW, set the record of electricity production in 2005, when more than 600 million kilowatt hours were produced. Quantities of coal transported from the mines „Resavica" (Public Company for Underground Coal Mining) and Kolubara Mining Basin are increasing in recent years. In this year, the planned delivery of coal amounts to 400.000 tones but it still isn't enough to make this unit operate 6.500 to 7.000 hours a year.
