DESTROYED 565 KILOS OF NARCOTICS

At the Thermal Power Plant “Nikola Tesla” A in Obrenovac, 565 kilogrammes of narcotics – heroin, marijuana, cannabis and cannabis weeds have been destroyed today. Total value of them at illegal market is about one billion dinars or almost 8.5 million euros. During burning and destroying the drugs into boiler at the Unit A4 there were Minister of Interior, Mr Nebojša Stefanović, Minister of Health, Mr Zlatobor Lončar, General Police Director, Mr Milorad Veljović, as well as general manager of CE TPP NT, Mr Čedomir Ponoćko with associates.

“Here, we are talking about narcotics for which orders were issued by superior courts in Niš and Kraljevo and where there are executive verdict in case of their confiscation and part of that quantity has been waiting to be destroyed from 1995”, said Minister of Interior, Mr Nebojša Stefanović.

He emphasized that this was the second time in last fifteen years that destroy of narcotics had been executed in that transparent way, with the presence of competent state board and media and he also announced that in following period these kind of actions would be organised more often, of course, in accordance with valid ecological standards and without any risks to citizens health. According to him, State and Ministry of Interior Affairs are far more committed in battle against drug dealers today than old days, which, he emphasized, tells enlarge intensity of confiscation in past six months, “especially confiscation of heroin, which represent a great risk for our children”.

“If we want to have healthier citizens in Serbia, and here we think about our children especially, and if we have information that 8% of those under the age of 16, have already tried drugs, I think these are very alarming numbers and that we have to do everything we can to change these indicators. We, in the Ministry of Health, will continue to insist that with transparency and respect the procedure conducted, drugs destroying should be performed more often, better and more transparent, as it is in the interest of the entire community”, said the Serbian Minister of Health Mr. Zlatibor Lončar, at the press conference.
